Back pain mainly comes from the muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine. The pain is variable and may be constant or intermittent, stay in one place or refer or radiate to other areas. At times it is dull or or a sharp, piercing or burning sensation. The pain is dominant in the regions of the neck and might radiate into the arm and hand, in the upper back, or in the low back that might radiate into the leg or foot and may also include weakness or numbness. Burning back pain is considered one of humanity’s most frequent complaints and alone in the US acute low back pain also called lumbago is the fifth most common reason for all physician visits. Latest surveys conducted reveals that about nine out of ten adults experience back pain at some point in their life and five out of ten working adults have back pain every year.

Causes of back pain

Pulled muscles or strained muscles are one of the most common causes of back pain and pain from such an injury will usually subside within two to six weeks. However if back pain lasts more than three months, or if there is more leg pain than back pain a more specific diagnosis is usually recommended. Also there are several other factors that support back pain and for adults under the age of 50 they include spinal disc herniation and degenerative disc disease and for indivuduals above the age 50 the common causes may include osteoarthritis a degenerative joint disease and spinal stenosis. Other than these non-anatomical factors such as stress, repressed anger, or depression can also cotribute to or directly cause back pain.

Role of outdoor sports in relieving backpain

Out door sports that involves a great deal of stretching and bending plays an important role in relieving back pain. Some of the most common outdoor games and activities like running, light exercises, trekking and hiking are found to relieve back pain especially for those who undergo little physical activities.
